NVIDIA DLSS adoption is growing rapidly, accelerated by easy-to-use Unreal Engine plugins and native support in Unity. This month 10 new games get DLSS, and a number of others, including Cyberpunk 2077, get upgraded to the new NVIDIA DLSS 2.3 SDK for even better image quality. With an AI model that continuously improves through training on NVIDIA's supercomputer, NVIDIA DLSS offers the best image quality and performance for over 130 games and applications.

To deliver a level of performance and image quality far above that of traditional upscaling technologies, NVIDIA DLSS utilizes an AI model trained on supercomputers, deep game integrations, and GeForce RTX Tensor Cores. Our DLSS AI model is always learning, and our newest update, NVIDIA DLSS 2.3, is available now. It makes smarter use of a game's motion vectors to improve object detail in motion, particle reconstruction, ghosting, and temporal stability.

In Cyberpunk 2077, which updates to NVIDIA DLSS 2.3 today, it more smartly uses motion vectors to reduce ghosting on fine detail in motion. Take a look at an example below, on the car's side mirror.

DOOM Eternal, id Software's much-loved first-person shooter, recently updated to NVIDIA DLSS 2.3, bringing improvements to particle rendering, which reduces streaking that obfuscated the appearance of embers and other small particle effects.

NVIDIA DLSS 2.3 is available now in 16 titles, including:

  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Bright Memory: Infinite
  • Crysis 2 Remastered
  • Crysis 3 Remastered
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Deathloop
  • DOOM Eternal
  • Grand Theft Auto III - Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Definitive Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Definitive Edition
  • Jurassic World Evolution 2
  • Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Sword & Fairy 7

And DLSS 2.3 comes to Farming Simulator 22 on November 22nd when the game launches.

arni-gxso, is that cyberpunk 2077 with steam version today, has been update to DLSS 2.3 ??

No unfortunately not yet, if you go into the Cyberpunk game folder, bin/x64 you can find the DLSS file (nvngx_dlss.dll) and the current version is still 2.1.39.0 which is basically a variant of DLSS 2.1. Though you can swap the nvngx_dlss.dll file, just overwrite with a newer version: www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/ but you have to keep in mind these are not CDPR verified DLSS files, but I have no problem either of them, the latest 2.3.4 has much better quality than the original. But since they announced that the official 2.3 will release, I switched back to 2.1.

There are more games that use DLSS a lot of indie games do but seem this list is only AAA crap titles.

Is a shame complete lists dont get published, not all of us play AAA games.

Nvidia really could've done a better job picking screenshots as example cases. The doom eternal one is a particularly poor example case and they then zoomed in on a spot where it's hard to discern much of anything because it's overtly dark. The full sized screen shots at least show a better idea of the improvements. It overall looks more clear and crisp it doesn't appear to have nearly as much smear and blur relative to 2.1 overall. I can tell with the Doom screenshots zoomed out in the lower left side that the texture detail is much better brought out or preserved I'm not sure which maybe they sharpened things a little or maybe they just found ways to minimize the amount of excess filtering that drags down color details with a bit too much color crushing going on.

FAQs

What is the AMD answer to Nvidia DLSS? ›

AMD FSR is a technology from AMD and is primarily available for graphics cards from that manufacturer, but can also be used on certain third-party graphics cards. Nvidia DLSS is a technology from Nvidia and requires an Nvidia graphics card of the Turing or Ampere architecture.

Does enabling DLSS increase fps? ›

However, when you enable DLSS in balanced mode, the frame rate doubles to 89 fps.

Should I turn DLSS on or off? ›

Though, it will take some time for it to appear in a large number of games. The key takeaway is this: DLSS can drastically improve a game's performance and, in some situations, can slightly improve image quality. Given these benefits, DLSS should be used as frequently as possible.

Does DLSS reduce image quality? ›

DLSS is an upscaler technology: it lowers rendering resolution but then upscales it to the target resolution. It uses AI model trained specifically for the game which makes this upscaling visually almost indistiguable from the non-upscaled version at target resolution.

Why can't AMD use DLSS? ›

Not only does DLSS require AI cores (Nvidia calls them Tensor cores) to operate, which means it's only functional on RTX 2000 and newer GPUs, but it's also locked to Nvidia GeForce GPUs specifically, whereas AMD's upscaling option instead uses open-source tech that can run on any graphics card.

Does DLSS slow down performance? ›

Does DLSS Increase or Decrease FPS? NVIDIA DLSS 3 has the prowess to amplify frame rates by 3-4x in specific titles. But our trials have occasionally noted a reduction in detail or a hike in latency. While DLSS is transformative for FPS, it isn't a universal solution.

Does DLSS help with CPU bottleneck? ›

If you have a powerful enough CPU, you'll see big FPS improvements (depending on how well DLSS/FSR is implemented), but if you're CPU bottleneck, you can see 0 fps improvements.

Does DLSS reduce GPU usage? ›

DLSS will drop the usage down (in some cases) as its taking the load of the GPU, but can also just increase the FPS whilst still maxing out the GPU. Battlefield hardly uses full GPU anyway as its mainly CPU bound (for majority of players).

Why does DLSS look so good? ›

DLAA uses machine learning to effectively smooth images and eliminate unsightly “staircase” effects, similar to traditional anti-aliasing technologies. The difference to the already familiar DLSS technique: DLAA does not rely on a change in resolution.

Does NVIDIA DLSS get better over time? ›

Supercomputer Performance

This means you get the power of the DLSS supercomputer network to help you boost performance and resolution—and it gets even better over time.

Is DLSS noticeable in 1080p? ›

DLSS is far less effective at 1080p compared to 1440p or 4K, because of how upscaling at this resolution uses a very low render resolution. The the DLSS Quality mode renders games at just 720p before upscaling to 1080p, offering limited pixel data for the algorithm to work with.

What is better Nvidia image scaling or DLSS? ›

A: DLSS uses AI, motion vectors, and prior frames to deliver the best image quality and performance. Spatial upscalers use only the current frame and a non-AI algorithm. DLSS is unique in boosting frame rates while maintaining image quality comparable to native resolution.

What is the best DLSS setting? ›

As mentioned, DLSS Super Resolution works best at a high output resolution. It looks and performs best if you're outputting at 1440p or 4K , and the benefits diminish at a lower resolution like 1080p.

Does DLSS cause motion blur? ›

When DLSS is enabled, motion blur's effects are either greatly reduced or completely disabled on objects randomly.

Is there an AMD equivalent to DLSS? ›

FSR is AMD's answer to Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (or DLSS), which is now on version 3 which uses frame interpolation to potential double framerates.

Is Nvidia worth it over AMD for DLSS? ›

DLSS still have better image/upscaling quality, and Nvidia's frame gen tech is still better than AMD's. The advantage the AMD has is that FSR isn't proprietary and isn't locked to certain cards like DLSS is. It's similar to how G-Sync and FreeSync went down.

Is AMD FidelityFX like DLSS? ›

No it's not. If you look closely in the demo of FidelityFX the quality was substantially low. Not only that but I assume it may run worse on low-end GPUs as they already are scarce on performance. DLSS on the other hand uses onboard NVIDIA Tensor cores.
